Joining the Global team in the Prairies in 2024, Derek has a high-energy personality. He has honed his international major gift experience in the U.S.A., Bermuda, the U.K., Hong Kong, China, Korea and Taiwan as well as across Canada. A recipient of the Gold Standard of The Duke of Edinburgh Award (1980), and the prestigious CAISAP Sam Heaman Award (2009) for his contributions to independent school philanthropy in Canada, Derek is also a Past President of AFP Calgary and Area Chapter, Past Chair of the AFP Canadian Council (predecessor of AFP Canada), and past Director of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy-Canada. Derek recently began a second tour of Board service with the AFP Calgary and Area Chapter. He serves as a national mentor for artsVest, a mentoring program with Business in the Arts and continues to serve as the Class Agent for the Class of 1979 at Ridley College.

He has worked on both grassroots efforts and multi-million-dollar campaigns both nationally and abroad including Canadian Feed the Children, Make a Wish Foundation for Southern Alberta, The Mustard Seed, March of Dimes Canada, Bow Valley College, iHuman Youth Society and Lethbridge College.

His entrepreneurial approach to philanthropy has seen him thrive in both small development offices and larger advancement operations. He brings broad-based perspectives and international expertise to assessments, plan development, implementation, and counsel.

Fun fact: Derek recently began playing competitive Padel and has enjoyed switching from squash to Pickleball as well!
